A highlight of Blueberry Cove is its proximity to Acadia National Park, where you can hike, bike, cross country ski or simply enjoy the views. For details visit the official website for the park. Be sure to visit the towns on Mount Desert Island, and the website of Bar Harbor. The Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery in nearby Orland offers a museum for fishery enthusiasts. The hatchery is located on Alamoosook Lake and beautiful Craig Pond is also in the same area. Both lakes have public access for swimming and boating. There are several places in the area to rent boats, including the Balsam Cove Campground in East Orland, offering rentals of party boats, motor or fishing boats, canoes, kayaks and paddleboats. Besides the beauty, the size, and the unique characteristics of the lake, you'll often see the loon, the Canada goose, mallard duck, and an abundance of deer and other wildlife which live among us. Visit Fort Knox in Prospect. Fort Knox is a State Historic Site owned and operated by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands. See the Penobscot River, and a beautiful view from the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge observatory ( one of just three in the world).
